The short term forecast for western New York. Lake effect snow showers will continue over the region. The most numerous will be over Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. Additional accumulations through 4 PM will range from a couple of tenths to a half an inch over higher elevations of Cattaraugus County. The Buffalo Metro area will see some sunshine and possibly scattered very light snow showers with a dusting at best. Though snowfall amounts this afternoon will be fairly minor, untreated roads can be snow covered and slippery. Motorists should use caution and be alert for slick spots and allow some extra time to reach your destination.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a lake effect Snow Advisory... which is in effect from 7 PM this evening to 6 PM EST Saturday.
Lake effect snow tonight and Saturday will produce localized amounts of 3 to 7 inches in the most intense and persistent bands.
In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow in narrow bands to clear skies just a few miles away. If you will be traveling across the region be prepared for rapid changes in Road and visibility conditions.
