The short term forecast for western New York. Lake effect snow showers will continue over the region. The most numerous will be over Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Cattaraugus, and Allegany counties. Additional accumulations through 4 PM will range from a couple of tenths to a half an inch over higher elevations of Cattaraugus County. The Buffalo Metro area will see some sunshine and possibly scattered very light snow showers with a dusting at best. Though snowfall amounts this afternoon will be fairly minor, untreated roads can be snow covered and slippery. Motorists should use caution and be alert for slick spots and allow some extra time to reach your destination.

A lake effect snow warning remains in effect until 6 PM EST Saturday.
Lake effect snow is expected to continue through this afternoon with 4 to 7 inches expected... with the heaviest amounts across the Chautauqua ridge.
The lake snows will intensify tonight and Saturday morning with up to an additional foot in the most intense bands. It will move a little further inland with at least a half a foot as far east as eastern Cattaraugus counties.
Storm totals could be in the 2 foot range by midday Saturday.
In lake effect snow the weather can vary from locally heavy snow in narrow bands to flurries just a few miles away.
