Areal Flood Warning
Statement as of 11:43 PM CST on January 6, 2009 |
... The Flood Warning remains in effect until 1130 am CST Wednesday for small streams in Franklin... southern Lincoln... Lawrence... DeKalb... Jackson... Madison... Limestone... Marshall... Cullman and Morgan counties...
Light to occasionally moderate rainfall mainly east of the Interstate 65 corridor will gradually diminish over the next two to three hours... with additional rain of one to three tenths of an inch possible.
Although the threat of additional heavy rainfall and flash flooding has diminished... numerous roads and bridges remain closed due to flood waters. Runoff will continue overnight into small streams and creeks... many of which will run bankfull or higher causing additional flooding through Wednesday morning.
Here is updated information on big Wills Creek in Fort Payne. At 1045 PM... the river stage was 14.1 feet and nearing its crest. Flood stage is 11 feet. The river will remain in flood through Wednesday morning.
Here is updated information on Indian Creek in Madison. At 1115 PM... the river stage was 7.80 feet and now falling. The river should fall below the flood stage of 7.5 feet before 6 am this morning.
Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
