Winter Weather Advisory
Statement as of 11:43 am AKST on January 6, 2009 |
... Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM akst Wednesday...
A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 PM akst Wednesday.
Northeast wind 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to around 45 mph... combined with the cold temperatures over the region... will continue to produce wind chill temperatures from 15 below zero in Skagway to 35 to 40 below zero near White Pass through Wednesday. Areas of blowing snow will lower visibility below 1 mile at times... with areas of drifting snow on The Klondike Highway.
A Winter Weather Advisory means that periods of snow... cold wind chills... and blowing snow... will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities... and use caution while driving.
Exposed skin in the advisory area can become frostbitten in 10 minutes. If you must be outdoors... be sure to cover all exposed skin.
Travel is discouraged unless it is an absolute emergency.
This statement will be updated by 6 PM akst today or sooner if conditions warrant.
