Excessive Heat Watch, Heat Advisory
Statement as of 3:15 PM EDT on July 29, 2010 |
... Heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening... ... Excessive heat watch in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening...
The National Weather Service in Charleston has issued an excessive heat watch... which is in effect from Friday morning through Friday evening. A heat advisory remains in effect until 8 PM EDT this evening.
The combination of high temperatures in the upper 90s to around 100 and moderate levels of humidity will produce heat index values of 107 to 113 degrees for much of interior southeast South Carolina and southeast Georgia this afternoon.
The risk for heat related illnesses will be especially high due to the long duration of this ongoing heat wave. Necessary precautions should be taken.
Precautionary/preparedness actions...
A heat advisory means that a period of very hot temperatures can be expected. The combination of heat and humidity will create a situation in which heat illnesses are possible. People are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids... stay out of the sunshine... check on the elderly and stay in an air conditioned location if possible. Never leave pets or children inside vehicles... even for a brief period.
An excessive heat watch means that a prolonged period of hot temperatures is possible. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity may lead to a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are possible.
